Cabinet specialists who understand a Gold Coast kitchen
The Gold Coast is one of Chicago's most storied neighborhoods, a stretch of lakefront just north of downtown lined with historic mansions and luxury towers. Cabinet painting, refacing, and refinishing are what we specialize in, not a service tacked onto general contracting, and that specialty is exactly what a Gold Coast kitchen calls for. The neighborhood rose after the Great Chicago Fire, when Potter Palmer and the families who followed built grand homes along the new Lake Shore Drive, and it has been one of the city's most prestigious addresses ever since. About half of our work is in condos and city buildings, and the design-forward homes here are some of our favorite kitchens to bring back to life.
The homes in the Gold Coast
The Gold Coast really holds two kinds of homes. There are the historic greystones, rowhouses, and mansions on landmark streets like Astor, many dating to the late 1800s and early 1900s, and there are the vintage co-ops and luxury high-rise condos that line the lake. Kitchens here run the full range, from grand, formal spaces in a historic home to compact but high-end kitchens tucked into a tower, and both deserve a finish worthy of the address.
Matching the color to the architecture
In a neighborhood this design-minded, the cabinetry is often the showcase. Some Gold Coast kitchens call for a crisp, elegant white in a classic Shaker, while others are the perfect place for something bold, a deep, dramatic tone or a two-tone look that turns the kitchen into a statement, and a clean Flat Panel suits the more modern towers. In a historic home, keeping a stained island or a run of real wood honors the period detail the house was built with. A designer consultation comes with every sizable project. Together you land on a cabinet color that works with your floors, your trim, your light, and the age of the home.
Condo and historic-home kitchens, and the quirks we plan for
Both kinds of homes come with their own considerations. In the towers, the builder-grade cabinetry is often reaching the age where finishes dull and the style dates, while the historic homes carry a century of settling, painted-over hardware, and layers of old finish. In most cases the boxes are still solid and well built, which makes them strong candidates for refacing, refinishing, or a fresh painted finish rather than a full gut. Because so many of these kitchens sit in shared buildings, containment matters more than anywhere: we seal the kitchen off under negative pressure so dust and fumes vent outside rather than drifting into a hallway or a neighbor's unit. All of it gets noted at the first walkthrough, so nothing catches you or your building off guard mid-project.
Working in the Gold Coast's high-rises and historic buildings
Nearly every Gold Coast job takes real coordination, and that is handled as part of the work: certificates of insurance for building management, reserving the freight elevator, working within building hours, and protecting lobbies, corridors, and common areas as we come and go. The Gold Coast is a short run north from the Fulton shop in Pilsen, so we are close by and easy to schedule. Expectations get set from the very beginning, and from the first coat to the last, the only job is to meet them and exceed them.

In their own words
What homeowners say after the reveal
Joe the owner is a pleasure to work with. The quoting process is meticulous and he helped me devise solutions and help me update the condo's look while keeping costs reasonable. Any issues from walkthrough is quickly addressed and Brayan from Joe's crew did a good job painting the various parts of the apartment. Will definitely work with them again and recommend Fulton Revival to anyone looking at painting jobs. Give them a call!
Joe and his team at Fulton Revivals were excellent and we are extremely pleased with the interior paint work done throughout our condo. They were professional and timely - communicating to us throughout the project. Joe had the team out quickly after project completion to address minor touch-ups post walk-through. Highly recommend and will utilize Fulton Revivals services for future work.
We recently had our kitchen cabinets refinished by Fulton Revivals. Working with Joe and Krystal was amazing and we couldn’t be happier with the results! They were professional, reliable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Our cabinets look absolutely beautiful — it’s like we have a brand new kitchen! Their attention to detail and pride in their work truly show. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship and outstanding service.

Gold Coast questions
Frequently asked
- Do you do cabinet work in Gold Coast high-rise condos with building rules and freight elevators?
- Yes, condo and high-rise work is about half of what we do, and the Gold Coast towers are familiar territory. We coordinate building access, schedule the freight elevator, and put a certificate of insurance on file naming your association as additional insured whenever the building requires it. We seal the kitchen in a plastic enclosure with a negative-pressure machine so dust and fumes stay contained, which is exactly what boards and neighbors want to see. Clean, quiet, and by the building's rules.
- Can you restore the cabinets in a Gold Coast mansion or Astor Street townhome to period-appropriate work?
- That is work we take real pride in. The Gold Coast Historic District's Georgian Revival, Queen Anne, and Richardson Romanesque homes deserve cabinetry treated as part of the architecture, so we restore and repaint original inset face-frame work rather than tearing it out. We finish in white, cream, or a muted heritage tone, sprayed in thin multiple coats for a smooth, even coat. The result reads brand new while still belonging to the house.
- My Gold Coast tower condo has a dated builder-spec kitchen. Can you update it without a full remodel?
- In most cases, yes. Many tower kitchens have solid boxes and just need a new finish and doors to feel current, so painting or refacing gets you there without the cost and disruption of a gut remodel. We can take a 1990s or 2000s stained kitchen to a crisp painted Shaker, or a modern Flat Panel if you want a sleeker line. We confirm the material at the consultation so the finish is prepped to last.
- We want museum-grade work for our Gold Coast kitchen. How do you approach that level?
- We treat these kitchens as showcase pieces, because that is what they are. We lead with color and design, help you choose a color and door style suited to the home, and pair sizable projects with a designer so you commit to the look with confidence. Then our own trained crews execute it with an Italian two-component polyurethane finish built in thin multiple coats for a smooth, durable result. Impeccable process, respect for your property, and a finish worthy of the address.
