Cabinet specialists who understand a West Town kitchen
West Town holds some of the oldest housing in Chicago, built largely between 1870 and 1920 as the near-northwest side filled in block by block. The result is a remarkably intact collection of building types: frame and brick worker's cottages, ornamented Queen Anne two-flats, brick two- and three-flats, greystone three-flats, and brick masonry vernacular by the German builders who shaped East Village, with modern gut-rehabs and new-construction condos woven in. West Town contains several distinct pockets, including East Village, Noble Square, Smith Park, Pulaski Park, Eckhart Park, Ukrainian Village, and Wicker Park.
That deep housing stock shapes the cabinetry. Un-rehabbed cottages and flats often still have older wood that has fallen out of trend, and earlier rehabs left 1990s and 2000s oak and maple. All of it is strong material for a painted Shaker, a refaced slab, or another clean, current style, while new-construction condos run to contemporary flat-panel. Across the board the boxes tend to be solid, which makes this painting, refacing, and refinishing territory rather than tear-out territory.
When we walk into a West Town kitchen, we are matching the cabinetry to a home with real historic character. We have repainted worn face-frame cabinets so they read brand new, brought dated oak back to something warm and intentional, and refaced tired doors into a Shaker, Artesia, or recessed-panel style that suits a period home. Here the kitchen is part of the architecture, and it deserves a craftsman who treats it that way.

What homeowners say after the reveal
Joe the owner is a pleasure to work with. The quoting process is meticulous and he helped me devise solutions and help me update the condo's look while keeping costs reasonable. Any issues from walkthrough is quickly addressed and Brayan from Joe's crew did a good job painting the various parts of the apartment. Will definitely work with them again and recommend Fulton Revival to anyone looking at painting jobs. Give them a call!
Joe and his team at Fulton Revivals were excellent and we are extremely pleased with the interior paint work done throughout our condo. They were professional and timely - communicating to us throughout the project. Joe had the team out quickly after project completion to address minor touch-ups post walk-through. Highly recommend and will utilize Fulton Revivals services for future work.
We recently had our kitchen cabinets refinished by Fulton Revivals. Working with Joe and Krystal was amazing and we couldn’t be happier with the results! They were professional, reliable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Our cabinets look absolutely beautiful — it’s like we have a brand new kitchen! Their attention to detail and pride in their work truly show. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship and outstanding service.

West Town questions
Frequently asked
- What is the difference between the West Town, Ukrainian Village, and Wicker Park pages?
- West Town is the larger community area that contains several neighborhoods. Ukrainian Village and Wicker Park have their own pages, and this page covers West Town more broadly, including East Village, Noble Square, Smith Park, Pulaski Park, and Eckhart Park.
- Do the landmark district rules affect my kitchen project?
- No. East Village and the neighboring landmark districts review exterior facade changes only. Interior cabinet painting, refacing, and refinishing is never subject to landmark review.
- Can you restore the original built-ins in my cottage or flat?
- Yes. Restoring and finishing period built-ins, hutches, and pantries is work we do often, so a refreshed kitchen still feels true to the age of the home.
- Should I paint or reface my 1990s oak cabinets?
- Both are good options. Painting keeps your doors and gives them a new finish, while refacing replaces the doors and drawer fronts with brand new ones in a current style while keeping your boxes. We will recommend the right path at the consultation.
- Can you handle both units in my two-flat?
- Yes. We regularly coordinate multiple units in one building, matching finishes across kitchens and scheduling the work so the building stays livable.
