Cabinet specialists who understand an Irving Park kitchen
Irving Park is one of the Northwest Side's richest architectural neighborhoods, with a Victorian-era core built out in the 1880s and 1890s and a bungalow and Foursquare belt that filled in through the 1920s. You find large late-Victorian frame houses and Queen Annes, American Foursquares, Prairie School and Craftsman homes, and Chicago and California bungalows, many with Colonial and Tudor Revival detailing. West Walker is known for its big single-family Victorians, Foursquares, and revival homes, and the Villa District is a cohesive ensemble of Prairie and Craftsman bungalows all its own.
Homes of this age and quality were built with serious cabinetry and millwork. Victorians and Foursquares here frequently keep original built-in hutches, plate rails, and pantries, and the bungalows have their own period built-ins. Where kitchens were rehabbed in the 1980s and 1990s, they usually wear honey oak or maple raised-panel that has gone out of trend, and restored homes increasingly move to a painted Shaker look. In every case the boxes tend to be solid, which makes this painting, refacing, and refinishing territory rather than tear-out territory.
When we walk into an Irving Park kitchen, we are matching the cabinetry to a home with real architectural intent. We have restored painted face-frame work so it reads brand new, brought ambered oak back to warm and current, and refaced dated raised-panel into a clean Shaker or Artesia that suits a Prairie or Foursquare home. Here the kitchen is part of the architecture, and it deserves a craftsman who treats it that way.

What homeowners say after the reveal
Joe the owner is a pleasure to work with. The quoting process is meticulous and he helped me devise solutions and help me update the condo's look while keeping costs reasonable. Any issues from walkthrough is quickly addressed and Brayan from Joe's crew did a good job painting the various parts of the apartment. Will definitely work with them again and recommend Fulton Revival to anyone looking at painting jobs. Give them a call!
Joe and his team at Fulton Revivals were excellent and we are extremely pleased with the interior paint work done throughout our condo. They were professional and timely - communicating to us throughout the project. Joe had the team out quickly after project completion to address minor touch-ups post walk-through. Highly recommend and will utilize Fulton Revivals services for future work.
We recently had our kitchen cabinets refinished by Fulton Revivals. Working with Joe and Krystal was amazing and we couldn’t be happier with the results! Irving Park questions
Frequently asked
- I live in the Villa District. Do the landmark rules affect my kitchen?
- No. The Villa is a Chicago Landmark district, but preservation review applies to exterior alterations only. Interior cabinet painting, refacing, and refinishing is never subject to landmark review.
- Can you restore the original built-ins in my Victorian or Foursquare?
- Yes. Restoring and finishing period built-ins, hutches, and pantries is work we do often, so a refreshed kitchen still feels true to the age of the home.
- Should I paint or reface my 1990s oak cabinets?
- Both are good options. Painting keeps your existing doors and gives them a new finish, while refacing replaces the doors and drawer fronts with brand new ones in a current style while keeping your boxes. We will recommend the right path at the consultation.
- Can I keep my cabinets as real wood?
- Yes. If your boxes and faces are solid wood, refinishing restores or restains the grain rather than covering it, so you keep the look of real wood while losing the dated tone.
- Do you serve Old Irving Park and the surrounding pockets?
- Yes. We work throughout Irving Park, including Old Irving Park, the Villa, Independence Park, Kilbourn Park, and West Walker.
