Cabinet specialists who understand a Humboldt Park kitchen
Humboldt Park is one of Chicago's great masonry neighborhoods, built almost entirely during the building boom of the 1890s through the 1920s. The result is a remarkably intact streetscape: ornate greystones with raised basements, deep bay windows, and stone stoops, brick two-flats and three-flats, brownstones, frame Queen Anne houses, and workers cottages, with mansion-scale greystones lining the historic boulevards. Newer slab-front condos appear here and there on cleared lots, but the character of the area is set by its stone and brick.
That heritage of solid construction shapes what a kitchen here needs. In vintage greystones and two-flats you often find original built-in hutches and pantries worth preserving. Many units have since been gut-rehabbed with 1990s and 2000s honey oak and maple raised-panel that is now dated, and increasingly those are being repainted to a crisp Shaker look. Newer condo infill carries flat, slab-front boxes. Across all of it, the boxes are usually sound, which makes this painting and refacing territory rather than tear-out territory.
When we walk into a Humboldt Park kitchen, we treat the cabinetry as part of a home built to last. We have brought decades-old oak back to warm and intentional, restored painted face-frame work so it reads brand new, and refaced tired raised-panel into a clean Shaker or Artesia that finally suits a greystone. In a home with this kind of stone and millwork, the kitchen is part of the architecture, and it deserves a craftsman who treats it that way.

What homeowners say after the reveal
Joe the owner is a pleasure to work with. The quoting process is meticulous and he helped me devise solutions and help me update the condo's look while keeping costs reasonable. Any issues from walkthrough is quickly addressed and Brayan from Joe's crew did a good job painting the various parts of the apartment. Will definitely work with them again and recommend Fulton Revival to anyone looking at painting jobs. Give them a call!
Joe and his team at Fulton Revivals were excellent and we are extremely pleased with the interior paint work done throughout our condo. They were professional and timely - communicating to us throughout the project. Joe had the team out quickly after project completion to address minor touch-ups post walk-through. Highly recommend and will utilize Fulton Revivals services for future work.
We recently had our kitchen cabinets refinished by Fulton Revivals. Working with Joe and Krystal was amazing and we couldn’t be happier with the results! They were professional, reliable, and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. Our cabinets look absolutely beautiful — it’s like we have a brand new kitchen! Their attention to detail and pride in their work truly show. We highly recommend them to anyone looking for quality craftsmanship and outstanding service.

Humboldt Park questions
Frequently asked
- Does the boulevard landmark district affect my cabinet project?
- No. The Logan Square Boulevards Landmark District, which now extends along Humboldt Boulevard, reviews boulevard-facing exterior changes. Interior cabinet painting, refacing, and refinishing is never subject to landmark review.
- Can you restore the original built-ins in my greystone?
- Yes. We are comfortable restoring and finishing period built-ins, hutches, and pantries so a refreshed kitchen still feels true to the age and detail of the home.
- Can you handle more than one unit in my two-flat or three-flat?
- Yes. We regularly coordinate multiple units in one building, matching finishes across kitchens and scheduling the work so the building stays livable throughout.
- Should I paint or reface my 1990s honey oak?
- Both are good options. Painting keeps your doors and gives them a new finish, while refacing replaces the doors and drawer fronts with brand new ones in a current style while keeping your boxes. We will give you a straight recommendation at the consultation.
- Can you work while we still live in the home?
- Yes. We seal the kitchen off with plastic and run a negative pressure machine vented outside, so dust and odor stay contained. You keep access to the essentials during the in-home days.
