Serving Highland Park
Highland Park's trusted cabinet specialists
Highland Park is a North Shore suburb about 25 miles north of downtown Chicago, a lakefront city of wooded ravines, winding tree-lined streets, and a walkable downtown, long known as the summer home of Ravinia. Cabinet painting, refacing, and refinishing are what we specialize in, not a service tacked onto general contracting, and that specialty is exactly what a Highland Park kitchen calls for. This is a community with real architectural pedigree, from grand older homes to celebrated mid-century modern houses, set on some of the most beautiful lots on the North Shore. The kitchens inside homes like these deserve cabinet work that respects the house rather than fighting it.
The homes in Highland Park
Highland Park's housing is as varied as its landscape. You will find grand older homes and estates near the lake and the ravines, a notable collection of mid-century modern houses, and ranches and colonials on the streets that filled in through the postwar decades, along with newer luxury builds. Homes here tend toward the larger side, so kitchens usually have room to breathe, with space for a generous island and the storage a full household runs on, and each one calls for its own approach.
Matching the color to the architecture
With homes this design-minded, the cabinetry carries a lot of the room. A painted Shaker in white, off-white, sage, or a soft muted tone suits the traditional homes, while a clean Flat Panel sits beautifully in the mid-century modern houses, whether you want a crisp all-white kitchen or something warmer in wood. There is usually room for a two-tone look as well, a painted perimeter with a stained white oak or walnut island that adds warmth and depth. A designer consultation comes with every sizable project. Together you land on a cabinet color that works with your floors, your trim, your light, and the age of the home.
Older kitchens, and the quirks we plan for
Many Highland Park kitchens are ready for attention. The older homes carry their years in settled cabinets, hardware painted over through decades of touch-ups, and layers of old finish, while plenty of houses were last updated in the 1990s or early 2000s, so their cabinets are hitting the twenty-year mark and starting to look out of trend. In most of these homes the boxes are still solid, well-built cabinetry with good bones, which makes them strong candidates for refinishing, refacing, or a fresh painted finish. You keep the layout you already like and put the work into the doors, drawer fronts, and finish you see and touch every day. All of it gets noted at the first walkthrough, so nothing catches you off guard mid-project.
More than the kitchen in a Highland Park home
Larger homes usually have more woodwork worth caring for than just the kitchen. A lot of Highland Park projects grow to take in a butler's pantry, a mudroom, an office, a wet bar, or vanities throughout, all finished to match so the house reads as one considered whole. Highland Park sits up on the North Shore, well within our service area, a straightforward run north from the Fulton shop in Pilsen. Expectations get set from the very beginning, and from the first coat to the last, the only job is to meet them and exceed them.

What homeowners say after the reveal
Joe the owner is a pleasure to work with. The quoting process is meticulous and he helped me devise solutions and help me update the condo's look while keeping costs reasonable. Any issues from walkthrough is quickly addressed and Brayan from Joe's crew did a good job painting the various parts of the apartment. Will definitely work with them again and recommend Fulton Revival to anyone looking at painting jobs. Give them a call!

Highland Park questions
Frequently asked
- Do you handle cabinet work in Highland Park's architect-designed and ravine homes?
- Yes, and Highland Park is one of our favorite places to do it. The city's ravine-and-bluff lots produced custom, architect-designed homes rather than tract houses, from Prairie School to mid-century modern, and we treat each kitchen on its own terms. We restore and repaint original inset cabinetry, refinish real wood, or reface into a style that suits the architecture, always leading with the design rather than a durability sales pitch. The work should fit the house it lives in.
- Our Ravinia-area cottage has original wood cabinets. Can you preserve the character?
- Absolutely. The Ravinia District's Craftsman cottages carry a lot of original character, and our instinct is to restore, not rip out. If you want to keep the real wood, we refinish and re-stain it while keeping the grain; if you want a painted look, we spray it in a color that suits the cottage in thin multiple coats for a smooth finish. Either way we protect the millwork and details that make the home what it is.
- We have dark 1990s cabinets in our Highland Park kitchen. Paint or reface?
- Both work well on that stock, and we give you a straight recommendation at the consultation. If the doors are dated but the boxes are solid, refacing swaps in brand-new doors and drawer fronts for a full transformation while keeping your layout. If the doors are in good shape and you mainly want a lighter, current color, painting is usually the smarter spend. A lot of Highland Park's 1980s and 1990s oak and cherry updates beautifully either way.
- Do you contain dust and work cleanly in an occupied Highland Park home?
- Every time. We seal the kitchen in a plastic enclosure with a negative-pressure machine vented out a window, so dust, fumes, and smell stay contained and exit the house instead of moving through it. You can stay in your home during the work, or travel while we handle it, since the kitchen stays sealed and secure. Daily clean-up and respect for your home are part of how we work.
